I have begun this project because I am a project person. I have begun this project near the first day of the year because I am a Hallmark person…and Hallmark says that the first day of the year is the Perfect Time to begin a new project! I have also begun this project because I LIVE to categorize and organize and catalogue. I come from a background of emotional chaos and disorder so my natural defense mechanisms became trying to control and order EVERYTHING! Of course, once I became a parent I realized that control and order were going to be fairly futile exercises. Nonetheless, I spend a disproportionate amount of my alone time in my house piddling and organizing and making lists of projects!
In a strange way it is how I pay homage to the magic that inhabits my life. I make photo albums and DVD compilations so that someday my children will understand just how precious each moment that we had together was to me. I write cards, letters, texts and blogs to show my appreciation to the universe for the gift of the life we are creating together and the unbelievable family of folks I share it with. I struggle mightily to find the balance between “being” and “doing”. And along the way I try not to eat too much and exercise too little and speak so harshly to the people I love most.
I once read that parenting is spending 98% of your time in preparation for the 2% which is incomparable joy…and that aptly describes my approach to living at this point. I spend the minutes and hours creating an environment that invites magic and peace and joy…when I am not washing dishes and running errands and getting to work late every day. And I pray in the dark of the night that I am not missing the moments of my life while I am busily making preparations. And so I hope that you will find my musings entertaining and familiar and provocative. I welcome your reactions, responses and advice. I am in also in search of a better title if anyone has any suggestions. If not, I will just put that on my list of Projects For Another Day!
